DETAILS FOR EXHIBITION OPENING AND AWARDS CEREMONY

Open To The Public

Location: Santa Fe College, Building N, Third Floor

Time: 6PM EST

The annual Santa Fe College Graphic Design Student Exhibition event, presented by SCAD Media, will be held Thursday, May 2, at 6 PM on the third floor of Building N on SF’s Northwest Campus. SF’s Fine Arts and Entertainment Technology department will host both the exhibition opening and the awards ceremony.

This will be an evening of creativity where the work of our graphic design graduates is presented on multiple media displays, there are themed photo areas, and let’s not forget the interactive chalk walls! The 2024 Student Exhibition is not only a send-off for our 2024 grads, it is also a full on celebration of the graphic design creative community here in Gainesville and surrounding areas.

Submitted work for this juried exhibition is designed by graphic design students in the areas of communication design, advertising design and digital media. We are please to announce our judges for this year are alum Madeline Maguire, Creative Director for General Motors (Oakland, CA), Jeffrey Stevens, Assistant Director at UF Health Web Services - Content and Social Strategy (Gainesville, FL) and Mariana Dominguez, Founder & Design Director of Mariana Dominguez | Design Studio (Barcelona, Spain).

The graduate’s portfolios of work will also be reviewed by professionals from University of North Florida, Mastercard, Tam Cai Studio, James Moore & Co., General Electric Credit Union, PHOS Creative, University of Texas at Arlington, SCAD Media, Southwest Gas Corporation, and InfoTech.

As one of the top graphic design programs in the region, SF’s Graphic Design Technology program is known for its innovative approach to teaching and learning. The program provides students with the skills and knowledge they need to be successful in the field of graphic design.

SF is thankful for the community of sponsors who continue to support the students. Sponsors this year include our platinum event sponsor SCAD Media, gold sponsor Frankel Agency, and silver sponsors Renaissance Printing, Gainesville Fine Arts Association, and Jade.

Live music provided by Rayvon Purple Kloud Rollins. Additional refreshment donations by Baker Baker and Fresh Market.

The awards ceremony provides an opportunity to celebrate the hard work and achievements of the 2024 graphic design graduates. Friends, family and members of the public are invited to attend. • 2024 JUDGE / Madeline Maguire, Creative Director for General Motors (Oakland, CA)

Madeleine Maguire is a creative leader with extensive experience in campaign development, content creation, design, strategy, and storytelling. Her greatest joy comes from leading a diversely talented team with mighty ambitions. She aims to be a world-class creative and brand expert, pulling from her experience across sectors and industries. The intersection of culture, media, and storytelling is where she likes to play, creating meaningful moments that authentically brings brands and their audiences together.

  • 2024 JUDGE / Jeffrey Stevens, Assistant Director at UF Health Web Services - Content and Social Strategy (Gainesville, FL)

Jeff Stevens is Assistant Director for Web Services at UF Health. He works on content and social strategy for the healthcare organization and serves as a consultant for the over 1600 content authors and creators within UF Health. In the past, Jeff served as creative director for Union Design & Photo, working with hundreds of clients on brand identity, web development, and tradeshow and conference publications and physical collateral.

  • 2004 JUDGE / Mariana Dominguez, Founder & Design Director of Mariana Dominguez | Design Studio (Barcelona, Spain)

After working as a designer in-house and at agencies in the US, I realized I had the potential to give businesses more. Fast forward a few years, and now I’m lucky enough to collaborate with amazing clients independently — creating timeless brands, strategic websites, premium presentations, and so much more.

While my roots are in the beautiful Caribbean waters of Venezuela, I'm currently in Barcelona, Spain where my natural need to seek new challenges and experiences has led me to grow my skills and talent while traveling. My work often reflects the cultures and places I visit, which allows me to see beyond the ordinary and push boundaries in my designs.

DETAILS FOR PORTFOLIO REVIEW

Location: Zoom - Not Open To The Public

Before the evening festivities, our graduates participate in a 3 hour long Portfolio Review process to have their work reviewed by industry professionals from across the nation. This is a private event for only our graduates and the professionals who are lending their valuable time to have one-on-one sessions to review each student’s portfolio.

If you are coming to our Exhibition Opening and Awards Ceremony, be sure to ask our grads how the Portfolio Review went! Though it can seem nerve-wracking, the actual experience is usually quite a confidence boost.
